annotated bibliography

Here is a posting from my annotated biblliography. My topic is social networking in schools. I have all of my articles. I am still in the process of reviewing them.

Yan, J. (2008). Social technology as a new medium in the classroom. The New
England Journal of Higher Education, 27(1), 29-30.

Annotation:
In this article Yan discusses the use of social networking in the classroom. The article shares ideas on how to have social networking throughout districts. The use of social networking can be used to share thoughts and ideas among staff, students, and administrators. Students can also share work with students throughout the district. The district can also look into other items such as Wiki and blogging. Staff and students can download software, projects, journal information, or other information they may be useful to other staff and students district wide. In some cases social networking can reach nation wide. Parents can play a bigger role in their child’s education by joining in with blogging, or by sharing in other types of social networking offered at the school.
The article ends by discussing how simple and accurate social networking tools can be used in the classroom. Students are taking a bigger role in their education, and taking a bigger interest in learning as well. Technology in the classroom can help students become more excited about learning.

My sceond life experience.

My second life person in Mandy Rinq. On Friday night Dr. McVey took me to some different worlds on Second Life. I really enjoyed the experience. I have been on second life briefly a few times before this, but I had not really explored any new worlds. We were in a forest, the moon, a museum, just to name a few. I practiced flying and walking. I am not very good at either yet. I need more practice. I saw a play, a huge cat drinking milk from a bowl, and many other exciting new things. It was a great experience. I would like to thank Dr. McVey for being my tourer guide. I am sorry I am not better at remembering places I have been. I working on that. I look forward to exploring many new worlds. I am glad I was introduced to second life. I use to have my home page set to a club with 80's music. I love the era of music. Yes I am showing my age. I lost the place I was at, so I am on the hunt for this place again. I was trasported there somehow when I first started second life. I want to go back. Loved the music!!!!!!!!!!

For this assignment, I decided to investigate Tagged. I had been asked back in 2008 to join tagged by one of my friends. I joined in June of 2008, but have not even looked at it since. I decided today to see if I could still log in and take a look at the site. I thought I might still be active since, I occasionally receive emails telling me to please log in and take care of my alerts. I have been ignoring the emails since I have not been using tagged since I joined almost two years ago. I went on the site, and put in what I thought might have been my password, and I was in. What is funny is that I still just have the one friend one tagged. That is the friend who asked me to join. I added a picture, and updated my profile. I am trying to find out about the different items on the site.
I have been looking around and investigating some groups to join. I am an animal lover, so I might join an animal group. I am also going to get some of my friends to join tagged with me. I also enjoy sports, so I am looking at the sports groups to join.
I am also going to join web biographies and look into that site as well. I was looking over the site, to see if I would enjoy belonging to it.

I am a twitterer

For this assignment, I decided to investigate Twitter. I have heard a lot of information about twitter from the radio, television, and acquaintances. I have never been on twitter, or even looked at what it was. It was my understanding that it is similar to facebook, in that you post items throughout the day to let followers know what you are up to.
I have just joined Twitter. I am now going to decide who I would like to follow. This is all new to me, so it will be interesting to see how this all works.
The joining process was not to difficult. I did have to choose a few different user names. I am not a member, and can begin my adventures in twittering. I just now have to find some celebrities and friends to follow. I have been looking at the site, and it seems to be pretty user friendly. I am going to investigate how to follow people.
